Costa Rica is a country located in Central America is ranked as one of the most visited international destinations. One of Costa Rica’s main sources of income is tourism. Costa Rica is a democratic and peaceful country, and it has not had an army since the year 1949.
Although the country is small and it covers only 0.03 % of the surface of the globe, it proudly shelters a 5% of the existing biodiversity in the entire world. 25.58 % of the country is composed of conservation and natural protected territory.
The span of the Costa Rican territory, from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, is 200 miles. The varieties of landscapes and microclimates that can be enjoyed in one day make this country a paradise destination.
In simply 51 thousand square kilometers, the traveler can find: sun and beaches, adventure, nature and culture; necessary components to satisfy the likes of thousands of tourists that find in Costa Rica their ideal holiday.
GEOGRAPHY: Rugged highlands are found throughout most of the country, ranging from approximately 1,000 to 2,000 meters (3,000 to 6,000 feet above sea level). The Guanacaste Mountain Range, Central Mountain Range, and Talamanca Mountain Range are the main mountain ranges extending the entire length of the country. There are several active volcanoes (Arenal Volcano, Irazu Volcano, Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and Turrialba Volcano) and the country’s highest mountain (Chirripo Hill) with a height of 3,819 m/12,530 ft. The country has a relatively long coastline in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, as well as a number of rivers and streams that attract specialist kayakers and rafters from all over the world.
CLIMATE: In general, the climate in Costa Rica is very pleasant not only during the dry season, which extends from December to April but also during the rainy season, which runs from May to November. During the rainy season rain can be expected in the afternoons, on the other hand the mornings are usually sunny.
Costa Rica has a tropical climate with an average temperature of 22 degrees C (72 degrees F) that increases considerably on the coastal areas. The changes in temperature are considerable and due to the short distances in this relatively small country, they can all be experienced in just one day.
Due to factors such as the geographical location, the weather conditions, the formation of mountain chains, mountains, and valleys, this country experiences different microclimates that give a home to different types of vegetation.
With a total of 5,921 sq. miles and more than 400 miles of coast line, the GUANACASTE, COSTA RICA tourism area comprises the Pacific Coast area from the border of Nicaragua to the Bongo River estuary in the Nicoya Peninsula. This tourism area is home to a very important section of Costa Rica’s cultural and natural heritage. This area boasts a significant number of protected areas including water, land, mountain, and coastal ecosystems that are teaming with life.
The incomparable beauty of its landscapes, which ranges from tropical dry forests to lowland mountain forests, its warm climate, as well as its flourishing nature have made Guanacaste one of the most heavily visited areas by locals as well as international tourists and is one of the most developed areas because of its high level of investment in the hotel industry that is in high demand. It also relies on important support by the Tourism Development Center of the Gulf of Papagayo and also relies on the Daniel Oduber International Airport through which arrive a number of charter and commercial flights from the United States.
All along the Guanacaste coastline are a number of beaches where you can swim in their warm Pacific Ocean waters. The coastal landscape is exceptional. There is an array of white-sand beaches and calm, intense-blue waters.
There are two commercial centers located in the northern area: Liberia and Santa Cruz, which, in turn, are linked with five important tourism development centers: Papagayo, El Coco, Flamingo, Conchal, and Tamarindo. In the southern area, the commercial center is Nicoya with Samara being the development center.
VALID PASSPORTS ARE REQUIRED, including 6 months post travel validity (example: travel in April, valid through October). Citizens of the United States, Canada, and most European and Latin American countries are issued a free tourist visa which permits them to stay in Costa Rica for 90 days. They must, however, be carrying an acceptable form of identification, at least US$300, and a departure ticket.
Citizens of all other countries should confer with the Costa Rican consulate nearest them to verify whether they are required to obtain a visa prior to entrance. If a visa is required, an entry deposit is also imposed, refundable upon departure.
DEPARTURE TAX: Each traveler is assessed a $29USD departure tax. This is typically included in the cost of the airline transaction – with each transaction we will reconfirm.
